Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

This past Tuesday night, we celebrated Divine Liturgy for the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple. At the time that the Entrance happened, she was very young, little more than a toddler, as she walked without fear or hesitation into the holy grounds. In the mist of that, we sang this troparion, which we will sing once again this Sunday:

Today is the prelude of the good will of God,
of the preaching of the salvation of mankind.
The Virgin appears in the Temple of God,
in anticipation proclaiming Christ to all.
Let us rejoice
and sing to her://
“Rejoice, O Fulfillment of the Creator’s dispensation!”

In many respects, both theologically and as a practical matter, the singing of this song launches us onto an arc of reflection and stillness that culminates in the joy of the Nativity. But we must choose to be on that journey!

1. This week: On Saturday at 4:00 p.m. we will begin our series of classes on "The Christmas Carol" and Orthodoxy, taught by Subdeacon Maximus. I am looking forward to this a great deal, and I hope you can come. It will be followed at 5:00 pm by Great Vespers, and then Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.

On Wednesday evening, we will serve a moliben for the sick and the suffering at 6:00 p.m.

2. Our parish feast day will be observed on December 9. Please mark your calendars regarding that festive day! It will culminate a week during which we focus on our heavenly patron. We will serve Great Vespers for St. Nicholas on Saturday evening. December 8. On December 5, the Wednesday of that week, we will serve a moliben to St. Nicholas at 6:00 p.m.

I hope to see you all this weekend!

In Christ,

Fr. James
