Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This weekend we will have our first missions conference, an effort put together and presented by Subdeacon Maximus. While this is a requirement of his Diaconal studies at St. Stephens, it is highly appropriate for other reasons. First, because we are explicitly a mission. Our job, our very function, is to bring the Faith to our area. A second reason, however, is found in the liturgical calendar. This coming Sunday is the Sunday of All Saints. The Church has always seen its function as being not simply to bring people into the Church in any nominal kind of way. Instead, we seek to make every believer to be filled with such love for Christ that we become saints. We wish to be His friends and followers. This weekend we commemorate, whether known or unknown, who are saints in Christ. As we build up the Body, we fervently pray and hope for that ultimate reality for us all, that we may be numbered among the saints.
So, for this weekend and the coming week: We will start our workshop this evening, with small compline (instead of the molebin) at 6:00 p.m. At 6:30 we will begin our first session, focusing on the state of things currently. The evangelical landscape is very different these days from what it used to be! On Saturday morning we will resume at 9:00 with Third Hour and then continue from there, finishing up at about 4:00 p.m. Bear in mind that during the workshop childcare will be available, as will copious amounts of coffee.
Please note! We will serve Great Vespers at the conclusion of the workshop, thus at about 4 pm. This is a one time change, so please keep it in mind.
Sunday morning we will serve Divine Liturgy for the Sunday of All Saints at 10 am.
On Wednesday evening we will have a molebin for the sick and suffering at 6 pm, followed by Inquirers Class at 6:30 p.m.
The next weekend, June 29 and 30, I am out of town. On Saturday, June 29, we will not have Great Vespers. On Sunday morning, June 30, Subdeacon Maximus will conduct a reader's service.
It will be busy, but I hope to see you all this weekend!
